Towne Ford approaches IAMAW, Local Lodge 2418 Miramichi &
Bathurst for assistance,guidance and representation
This past summer, Techs,
Service Advisors and Parts employees who work for Towne Ford,
Miramichi approached the IAMAW seeking union representation.
Noting wages and other work place conditions as a priority in
their concerns.
After weeks of matters before the NB Labour and Employment
Board, and subsequently following a representational vote by
those workers deemed to be the described bargaining unit; the
IAMAW was issued a Certificate under the Application for
Certification process as outlined under the Industrial
Relations Act. Consequently, the union is now the certified
agent to represent this new group.
Bargaining has commenced between the parties. Both parties
are seeking a tentative agreement be accomplished on work
rules, regulations, rates of pay, seniority, and other
related work place issues. Talks at first glance seem to be
positive and headed in the right direction. The bargaining
process is far from complete; many items are still on the
table and now await final responses.
Further updates on bargaining and reaching a first collective
agreement for this newly organized unit will be posted as
events unfold."
